Combining a Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift

A breast augmentation and a breast lift are two of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery. Separately, they can enact various improvements on the profile and dimensions of the breasts. Together, they are able to create even more enhancement.

Breast Augmentation

Breast enlargement surgery, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, involves placing an implant beneath the breast tissue or the chest muscle under the breast. An implant is a silicone shell filled with either a saline solution or a silicone gel.

The surgeon will make an incision on the bottom crease of the breast, in the armpit, or at the areola’s lower edge to position the implant. The implant is then inserted through the opening and is placed in a pocket below either the chest muscle or the breast tissue.

Some surgeons are of the opinion that placing the implant under the muscle reduces the chances of capsular contracture or interference during mammography. Once the implant is positioned properly, the surgeon will close the incisions up with stitches.

Breast Lift

A breast lift might be done in conjunction with a breast enlargement. A lift can elevate drooping or sagging breasts, areolae, or nipples. The surgeon will remove excess skin from around the areola or the lower portion of the breast to lift it. The remaining skin is brought together to raise and tighten the breasts.

Breast lifts usually require larger incisions that breast enlargements. The incisions might extend all the way from the areola to the fold where the lower part of the breast joins the chest.
